I know we’re all trying to figure out the best way to stay connected to the teenagers in our ministries during these extraordinary pandemic restrictions.
But we want more than just “connection”—we’re looking for ways to shift our spiritual-growth environments from face-to-face to virtual. So, this week I led my first-ever virtual group with 22 teenagers. For a first try, I think the whole thing surpassed my (and their) expectations. But I did learn what I’ll change for our next gathering. So I shot this short video to walk you through what we did, and what we learned…
I’d love to hear about your experience as well—and any great insights or learnings you had. Just comment on this blog below…

We did Zoom as well with our youth. Would love to have the devotional!
Thanks for sharing. I’m the youth coordinator at my church and today we will host our first virtual youth meeting.
how was it.
Thanks for the great advice on the virtual youth groups!!!
Thanks for the recommendation. I’m doing a video devotion on Facebook every morning for the students and we’re using Zoom for Sunday school and our Wed night study. Right now we’re using basic, but I may need to upgrade. Maybe the chatroom feature would help the dynamic a little bit.
Rick.. Good to hear some of the struggles you initially interfaced to. I have not figured out the breakout rooms yet either. I did use a video and some powerpoint. The video was lagging yet overall worked. I am hoping to use an external screen such as a TV behind me that the students can watch and hopefully that will work better. Good luck in continuing to share the Gospel.
We’ve been Zoom as a platform on which to meet for the past month here in Cape Town, South Africa. However, the reality in the community I serve is that not everyone has access to the internet.
