UNASSIGNED

We here at Group Magazine decided to do something we’d never done before: a theme issue. And the thematic elephant in the room that no one is talking about is sexual sin. So we’re dragging that elephant—kicking and bellowing—into the light where we can deal with it. The articles on this page each tackle a different aspect of sexual sin. And make sure you join us on July 21 at 9 AM Mountain time for a frank discussion of sex, culture, and youth ministry with special guests Craig Gross of xxxchurch.com and veteran youth pastors Jeffrey Wallace and Danette Matty. Watch at SimplyYouthMinistry.tv.

And that fact alone was inconceivable to me, in my mind the least-likely guy to get fired from a church or any job, for that matter. Read more…

Betrayal In a Youth Ministry Marriage

“The path to hell is paved with good intentions.”

The great Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, the first-millennium French abbot, is our best guess for the source of this well-known aphorism. In my own experience, it’s also true that the path to hell is paved with countless slight turns away from Jesus, until you find yourself drastically distant from him. A few years ago, this is exactly the pit I’d fallen into—hopelessly trapped in a web God’s enemy had skillfully woven for me.
