Yesterday we got a surprisingly high response to “How to Get the Most Out of a Youth Ministry Conference” and are beyond excited that many of you are joining us for SYMC 2012. Today we wanted to highlight the very best part of a youth ministry conference, but we couldn’t limit it to just one! Here’s a quick look at our four favorite parts of a conference.
There’s nothing better than sitting around the table with some other like-minded youth workers talking about youth ministry. Often times these discussions lead to some significant insights you came to the conference hoping to get. Make time for plenty of discussion the next time you’re at a youth conference.
Sometimes you just don’t know the answer to a problem that has been plaguing you. Sometimes you need to hear the answer that you know in your heart was right from the start. Bring your questions and be humble to ask for an accept answers. Make sure you trust the source and ask God’s Spirit (wow, that’s two days in a row we mentioned the Holy Spirit…way may lose our Baptist street cred!) to guide you in the next steps once the answers are revealed.
Some of our very best friends are fellow youth pastors we only every so often at youth conferences around the country. There’s nothing more encouraging then connecting with a few other like-minded friends in the trenches of youth ministry. Need some encouragement? These godly men and women are an integral part of faith and longevity. Carve out time to spend over food with a few others called to youth ministry.
If you don’t leave your next youth ministry conference with a whole Moleskin worth of ideas, you missed out! Take a ton of notes and jot down quick thoughts in every conversation. You can revisit them over the next few weeks and decide which ones to begin implementing.
That’s our list! What’s your favorite part of youth conferences?
