Thanks for this list, Josh. It’s interesting to see what other youth groups are singing.

Here’s my perspective on Hillsong United. I really enjoy listening to their music, but I’ve also found it hard to play/sing their songs at youth group. They are hard to learn if you have never heard them, and some are difficult to even sing. I appreciate the talent Hillsong United has, but sometimes there musical abilities are beyond what we can do at a youth group meeting.

We are doing a lot of Keith Getty-Stuart Townend-Indelible Grace-type hymns. They are easy to learn and contain some great (and deep) theological truths that I think have really been lost in youth ministry.

I recently introduced “You Alone Can Rescue” by Matt Redman, but I’m not sure how well it went over. Sometimes the youth are not up for learning new stuff …

we do alot of hillsong and Jesus Culture stuff… it’s good if you have very competent musicians and singers, otherwise I’d stick with Tomlin, etc.

Actually one song that’s probably our most popular right now (it was the theme for a big night we did last month) is one that I have NOT been able to find the origins of… the chorus goes like this…

“Tear down the walls, lead us to Your heart, where every tribe, every tongue, hears of Your love”

it’s kindof a ballad, like “the stand” or “from the inside out”… I first heard it on the podcast of a megachurch in our area and taught it to our students from that, but haven’t been able to find it online anywhere, and no one from that church will return my emails to tell me who wrote it… anyone else heard it??

  • Gary says:

“I Am Yours” by Jordan Howerton Band has been a hit. And we do a lot of stuff by Worth Dying For…not easy to sing, but they have both ballads and catchy songs that students can jump around to and have some fun.

  • Alex says:

Lately our group has been really into “The Motions”, not sure who it is by.

These two songs from Chris Moerman’s new album “Sounds Like Sunset” and used at Grace Midtown Church are awesome!!!

Magnificent 3:41 Chris Moerman Sounds Like Sunset Christian & Gospel 2

Song of Moses 5:29 Chris Moerman Sounds Like Sunset Christian & Gospel 2

  • Anna says:

I think the biggest song right now at MY youth group is Forever Reign by Hillsong. That and How He loves are our anthems. If you want a song for a god invitation, it would be “Long long way” by Jonathan and Lisa Moore. You can’t afford to miss that song, so listen asap!

In reply to John… I found a link to the song you had a few lyrics to.

Hope this helps you out. It has chords as well.
