Yesterday we talked about managing your time – and quickly mentioned the power of software and apps that could help you get the most out of your ministry day. You don’t need every new productivity software out there – trying to manage too much time management technology is poor time management! But here are a few that we like best:

Google Calendar/iCal/Outlook
The central tool to making your time work for you – a calendar that syncs with your phone and your spouse. Genius! Update it in a web browser and it’ll almost instantly sync with your phone. Your spouse updates it with family dates, and you see them quickly before you schedule that next overnighter right on top of the in-laws coming to town.

Actually, you might want to schedule that overnighter anyhow. Do some research on which system is right for you (what will work with your computer, smart phone, etc) and you’ll be blown away at the progress you’ll make managing your time.

Rescue Time
This one has the potential to be game-changing. What if there was a program that monitored exactly what you did with your computer all day. It could tell what documents you worked on, how long you poured through email, and how many minutes you stole to surf Amazon for some Christmas shopping or hanging around on Facebook. Really, really insightful look into how you spend your time in front of your computer. Time is sort of like money: The more attention you pay to where you spend it, the more you end up with.

Highrise HQ
This online tool works great as a database for your students and volunteers. It is a super powerful people management tool, since it keeps track of your emails and contacts with each person. With the click of a mouse you can see which of your volunteers haven’t been contacted in a while, etc. We LOVE this one!

Evernote
This fantastic service will save you time because any notes or documents you take will sync with the app, or show up on your other devices instantly. You can even take pictures (like of a whiteboard full of sermon ideas) or share folders with your creative team so everyone is in the loop.

Daytimer
If you are more of an “old school” person, there is still nothing better than a Day-timer! Putting pencil to paper is still the preference for many, and Day-timer lets you customize the way you do just that!
