Sitting at lunch with my wife and daughter at our favorite local spot, I saw the now-familiar face above and began explain to Bekah who this man was and why people were getting “Linsanity.”

As usual, she had the best thought on the matter I’ve heard yet.

Some back story to what’s going on. Jeremy Lin has proven himself in multiple games with the New York Knicks after getting kicked off his former team during practice without any warning. He got on the Knicks and well…the rest has been a really good season. During this month he’s averaged 21 points a game and 8 assists. (As of 2/17/12.)

So what’s Jeremy Lin doing with his newfound platform?

“I’m thinking about how I can trust God more,” the 23-year-old New York Knicks guard told San Jose Mercury News. “How can I surrender more? How can I bring Him more glory?”

During one interview he talked about trusting God during getting kicked off his former team:

“…Lin also spoke about using the Bible to get through hurt feelings that he experienced when his former Golden State Warriors team decided to release him without any real chance to play.”

“I definitely didn’t see it coming and got pulled out midway through the first practice. My agent and I had zero idea that was going to happen,” Lin said. “It was really tough for me at the time but I just tried to hold on to a lot of the stuff in the Bible that God gives to trust, have joy in the sufferings, and trust in his perfect plan. That’s what I tried my best to do and I’m thankful the way things turned out.”

Great athlete + humble attitude + outspoken Christian = Celebrity Status.

Bekah’s thought on the matter?
“That’s so great that he’s using his platform to honor God. It’s like Tebow. We need people there to be Christians in the spotlight. We love to see them, but it makes me think: ‘Why can’t we do that? Don’t we all need to be outspoken wherever we go? Shouldn’t we be living honorable lives even in small towns and we’re not in the spotlight?’ “

Yup. That will about sum it up. We should all live a life that’s worthy of honor. It’s not just for the guys in the spotlight and in the news. We should live a life that points to Christ. Two verses come to mind:

Mankind, He has told you what is good
and what it is the LORD requires of you:
to act justly,
to love faithfulness,
and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8

and

Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ.
1 Corinthians 11:1

Linsanity is great, but what if everyone were talking about how great of a Christian example you were setting?
