I have been serving in youth ministry for nearly 20 years, am currently the Director of Student Ministries at Valley Church in Des Moines, IA, and am on a first name basis with several Best Buy and Apple employees. My wife Keri and I have been married over ten years and have three great boys. My four favorite things are Jesus, my wife, Chicago Style Pizza, and fighting off our boys with sweet ninja moves.

Yesterday, I posted about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Before the post went live, one of the student in my ministry challenged me to it via Instagram. Today, I challenge Greg Stier, Shane Stacey, Rick Lawrence…You have 24 hours to respond.

Head out and poke, these three and let them know this video is here…

Even before I accepted this challenge (and I do), I had a curious horde of ne’er-do-wells lining up to “assist” in the dumping of the ice water on me… They are villains and brigands and dumpers-of-ice who, I’m sure, will make sure the video of the deed has wide distribution…

I have a concern about the challenge. Many of our youth are posting the videos of when they accept the challenge, but when asked, they do not know what ALS is. They see it as a way to bring attention to themselves. It is fun, trendy but really doesn’t mean anything.

Maybe when Greg, Stacy and Rick accept the challenge and make the video, they will take a few seconds to pray for those affected by the disease. Do it on the video and make sure that part is posted along with the ice bucket attack.
