24 Basic Small Group Do's and Don'ts

We found it challenging to train first time small group leaders. Too little information, and they felt under prepared. Too much information left them feeling overwhelmed. Neither was good!

At the end of our training, we would conclude with a simple list do’s and don’ts. The idea wasn’t for them to remember all of them, 24 is way too many!

Instead, this tool was something a leader could look at regularly to find one idea they could apply to enhance their ministry

Kind Words

You'll need 10 sheets of paper for every five kids, a tape measure, and a watch with a second hand. Form teams of five and give each team 10 sheets of paper. Say: Each team has the same amount of paper and must build the tallest tower possible in three minutes The tower must be able to stand on its own for 30 seconds. After three minutes, have everyone step back and wait 30 seconds before measuring to find the tallest tower.

Perseverance

Lead your kids in the following silly exercises to test their endurance. Have kids perform each activity for at least 15 seconds. Follow each activity immediately with the next one from the list. If your kids seem like they can keep going after you've used up the activities, repeat those you liked best (or make up your own).
