Here is a letter I wrote to our freshmen in college. This will be sent with a package of goodies from our caring team.

I wonder if it has hit you yet, it has definitely hit me… YOU ARE A COLLEGE STUDENT! It seems like yesterday that we were hanging in the youth room, playing in the gym, and connecting through small groups. This is a very challenging time of the year for me for several reasons. One is sending you off to college with excitement, but also feeling a sense of “Wow they are gone and I will not get to see them as often.”

I wanted to remind you of how proud we are of you. It is a great adventure you are on. That adventure comes with challenges, joys, tears, fears, victories, painted faces at the home games, season tickets, and eating at the dining hall (I am not sure if that one is good or bad.). It comes with great opportunity and temptations. The journey may seem long for some and over so quickly for others.

A bit of reflection:
Do you remember putting on your cap and gown for graduation? Do you remember your graduation party? Do you remember hanging out at Snappy’s, Skyline and McD’s in Bright? Do you remember leaving your drive way for the last time as you become a college student? Do you remember the last big hug from your parents or maybe the hug was more like a trap to keep you a bit longer?

A bit of challenge:
Have you found out the hamburgers aren’t so good at the dining hall? Have you realized it is easier to get lost going to class than not? Have you found the teachers are a bit difficult to understand? Have you called home yet? Have you started to miss your friends and high school life?

God has blessed you with the ability to live away from home, to gain a higher education, and the excitement of meeting new friends. I believe God has created this opportunity for you to grow closer to Him, to be a witness for Him and to become all that He has created you to be. But it is up to you to do something about it.

  • How are your God’s times, devotions coming along?
  • Have you had a teacher or class challenge you in your belief?
  • Have you found a Christian community to plug into yet? If not, what are you waiting for? If so, Awesome. If you are struggling to find a place or need a quick connection with home, check out the weekly sermons posted on the Web site
  • Have you created time to pray as you walk, bike or drive to class?

I am praying for you and your journey through the freshmen year of college. Please let me know if you have any specific prayer needs, or need to do some Skyping. My door is always open, along with my email box (your email here) , texting (xxx-xxx-xxxx) and skype (_______________).
God Bless you as you spread your wings and fly.
